Zombie School Megaways™ Game Review (Upcoming Slot Demo)
Introduction to Zombie School Megaways™
I just finished giving Pragmatic Play's latest zombie-themed slot, Zombie School Megaways, a thorough test run, and I gotta be honest – it's a pretty mixed bag. Gets released on August 4th, 2025, this undead school adventure takes you into a post-apocalyptic classroom where students and teachers have turned into flesh-eating zombies. The theme is well-executed with gore-spattered visuals and creepy sound effects that really set the mood.
The game runs on the familiar Megaways engine with 6 reels and going up to 7 rows, offering a maximum of 117,649 ways to win. After 15+ years of playing slots, I can appreciate when a developer commits to a theme, and Pragmatic definitely nailed the zombie apocalypse atmosphere here. However, once you get past the impressive visuals, the gameplay itself feels pretty standard – maybe even a bit underwhelming compared to some of their other recent releases.
The high volatility and 96.55% RTP are solid numbers, but what really caught my attention during testing was how the best features are locked behind expensive bonus buys. More on that later though!

Gameplay and Special Features of Pray for Three
The base game in Zombie School Megaways is pretty straightforward Megaways action. You got the usual tumble feature where the winning symbols explode and new ones fall down to replace them, potentially creating chain reactions. The symbol hierarchy includes card symbols (lowest paying), school supplies like lunch boxes and first aid kits, human characters, and zombie characters as the top payers.
What's interesting is that zombie symbols pay significantly more than humans – the top zombie can award up to 5x your bet for a 6-of-a-kind combo, while humans max out at 1.5x. Makes sense thematically, I guess!
The wild symbols can land on all the reels except the first one and substitute for everything except scatters. During my testing session (about 400 spins), I found the base game hit frequency of 1 in 4.83 to be pretty accurate. You'll land small wins regularly enough to keep your balance from bleeding too fast.
However, there's really nothing special happening in the base game beyond the standard Megaways mechanics. No random modifiers, no special features – just basic tumbling reels waiting for you to hit those scatter symbols. This felt a bit disappointing compared to other recent Pragmatic releases that usually pack more excitement into the base gameplay.
Free Spins and Bonus Features of Pray for Three
The free spins feature triggers when you land 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, awarding 10, 15, or 20 free spins respectively. During my testing, I managed to trigger this naturally about 3 times, which aligns with the stated frequency of 1 in 406 spins.
In the regular free spins, each winning tumble comes with a multiplier equal to the total number of symbols that exploded. So if 12 symbols explode during a tumble sequence, you get a 12x multiplier applied to that win. It's a nice touch, but the multipliers reset after each spin.
But here's where things get interesting – there are two bonus buy options:
- Standard Free Spins Buy: 100x your bet for the regular free spins described above.
- Persistent Multiplier Free Spins Buy: 500x your bet for enhanced free spins where the multipliers don't reset between spins. Instead, they accumulate throughout the entire feature!
The best feature is definitely when you buy the Free Spins with the Persistent Multipliers for 500x your bet. I tried this twice during my testing – once it paid back about 300x (ouch), but the second time I hit over 2,000x thanks to those multipliers building up spin after spin. However, it's very costly and the buy bonus isn't available in all countries, which is a real shame.
There's no difference in the RTP when activating the buy bonus or the ante bet, but the biggest wins mostly come in the free spins, so it's worth it if you can afford the steep price.

Useful Information About Pray for Three
The 10,000x max win potential is solid for a Megaways slot, though reaching it will likely require either incredible luck in the regular free spins or a successful persistent multiplier bonus buy.
The hit frequency of 1 in 4.83 for base game wins means you'll see action regularly, but with high volatility, expect long stretches between meaningful payouts.
You can activate an ante bet for double your stake to make free spins 5 times more likely to trigger. I used this for about 100 spins during my testing and did seem to get more scatter symbols, but it also burns through your balance twice as fast.
The betting range from $0.20 to $240 makes it accessible for most players, though if your planning to use the persistent multiplier bonus buy regularly, you'll need a pretty substantial bankroll since it costs 500x your bet each time up to . So if you bet the max bet its $96,000 to buy the bonus, they most have made that for Bill Gates 😉
One important note – bonus buys aren't available in all regulated markets, so check your local restrictions before getting too excited about the enhanced features.
My Thoughts About This Demo Game™
After spending several hours with Zombie School Megaways, I'm left feeling like this game is really nothing special – it's an average game, but with a great Persistent Multipliers feature in one of the buy bonuses.
The theme and presentation are definitely top-notch. The zombie apocalypse setting is well-executed and the gore-spattered visuals create a genuinely creepy atmosphere. But once you get past the impressive aesthetics, the gameplay feels pretty basic compared to other recent Pragmatic releases.
My main issue is how they've structured the features. The best part of the game (persistent multipliers) is locked behind a 500x bonus buy that many players either can't access or can't afford. It feels like they deliberately kept the base game and regular free spins bland to push players toward the expensive bonus buy option.
During my testing, the regular free spins were decent but not spectacular. My best natural bonus paid about 180x my bet, which is okay but nothing to write home about. The persistent multiplier rounds, when I could afford to buy them, were genuinely exciting and delivered the kind of wins that make your heart race.
Bottom line: Zombie School Megaways is a decent enough slot with excellent presentation, but it feels like they've put the best content behind a paywall. If your comfortable with expensive bonus buys and have the bankroll to handle the 500x cost, the persistent multiplier feature can be absolutely thrilling. For everyone else, you'll be stuck with a pretty average Megaways experience.
⭐ Overall, Zombie School Megaways™ Gets 7/10 rating. Great theme and visuals, but the best features are locked behind expensive bonus buys, making it feel incomplete for most players.
Will I play again? Nope to many other good slots 😉
