Sun Princess Game Review (New slot release)
Introduction to Sun Princess
Sun Princess is the latest anime-style slot from Hacksaw Gaming, and honestly its been eating up way more of my playtime than I expected. Released on October 23rd, 2025, this game joins the growing family of princess slots from Hacksaw – we've already met Cloud Princess and Rainbow Princess, so naturally the Sun Princess had to show up eventually to complete the collection.
The first thing that caught my eye was the setting. Your playing in this gorgeous outdoor garden area with stairs leading up to what looks like a palace. The Sun Princess herself hangs out on the side of the screen looking all friendly and golden-crowned, wearing this barely-there outfit that's pretty typical for anime slots these days. The whole vibe is cheerful and bright – definitely a nice change from all those dark, gritty slots I've been grinding lately.
What really got me interested though wasn't just the pretty visuals. Its the spreading mechanic that Hacksaw is known for, but this time they've added some clever twists that make Sun Princess feel fresh even if you've played their other princess games before. After spending a solid afternoon with this slot I can say it deserves the attention its getting.

Gameplay and Special Features of Sun Princess
Sun Princess uses a 7×7 grid where symbols land and create wins when you get at least 5 matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically – basically cluster pays. One thing that surprised me at first is there's NO cascading feature here. Most cluster pay slots make symbols disappear and new ones drop down, but Sun Princess doesn't do that. Instead, they've got something called Chain Reactions which work with the spreading mechanic.
The pay symbols are split between 5 gem pieces on the low end and 5 princessy anime objects on the high end. Landing a small cluster of 5 matching symbols pays between 0.1x to 1x your bet, but fill the entire grid with 49 matching symbols and you can win anywhere from 300x to a massive 10,000x! Wild symbols help by substituting for regular pay symbols, which is always nice.
Now here's where things get really interesting – the Sun Ray Frames. These bad boys can land on any pay symbol or wild at the start of a spin, and they activate after your wins are checked. When a Sun Ray Frame triggers, it spreads in a straight line transforming all symbols in its path into the same type. You can get vertical rays that spread up and down, horizontal rays going sideways, or the really exciting four-way rays that extend in all directions across the grid.
During my testing session I landed a four-way ray on a high-paying symbol near the center of the grid, and watching it spread across was just satisfying. The whole grid lit up with matching symbols and I ended up with a nice 180x win from what started as a pretty basic combo.
The multiplier mechanic is another smart touch. When a Sun Ray hits a wild symbol, it adds a x2 multiplier to it. Even better, each time that same wild gets hit by another ray, the multiplier increases by another x2. So you can end up with wilds carrying x4, x6, x8 multipliers or higher. Multiple multipliers in the same win get added together before they're applied to your payout, which can lead to some surprisingly big hits.
Here's the kicker though – only ONE Sun Ray Frame can land at the start of each spin. That sounds limiting at first, but that's where the Chain Reaction feature comes in. If a Sun Ray spreads over a matching pay symbol or wild, it triggers a Chain Reaction and places a NEW frame on that symbol. This can keep going until you've filled up the entire grid! I managed to trigger a chain reaction that spread across about half the grid once, and it was honestly one of the coolest moments I've had playing slots recently.
Free Spins and Bonus Features
Sun Princess comes with three different bonus rounds, and each one builds on the mechanics of the base game in different ways.
Solaris Grove Bonus Game – This is the entry-level bonus that you trigger by landing 3 FS scatter symbols. You get 10 free spins, and the main difference from base play is you have a much better chance of landing those Sun Ray Frames. During my playtime I triggered this bonus twice. The first time was kinda meh – only walked away with about 45x total. But the second time I got lucky with some chain reactions and ended up with a solid 320x win. Not bad at all!
Sunfire Palace Bonus Game – You need 4 FS scatters to trigger this one, which also gives you 10 free spins. This bonus has everything from Solaris Grove PLUS a huge upgrade – when a Sun Ray Frame spreads through a wild symbol, that wild becomes sticky and stays on the grid until the round ends. The multiplier on it still increases by x2 every time its hit by another ray. I only managed to trigger this bonus once during my session, but it was memorable. Started with a wild that got hit multiple times, building up to a x10 multiplier and staying locked in place. Ended that round with a 580x win!
Golden Eclipse Hidden Epic Bonus Game – This is the big one. Landing 5 FS scatters unlocks this beast and awards 10 free spins. It has all the Sunfire Palace mechanics, but with one game-changing guarantee – at least 1 Sun Ray Frame lands on EVERY single spin. I haven't triggered this one yet despite playing for several hours, but I've seen some streamers hit it and the results can be insane. The guaranteed frames combined with sticky multiplier wilds make it possible to hit that 10,000x max win.
One more thing – in all three bonus rounds, if you land 2 or 3 FS scatters during the feature, you get an extra +2 or +4 free spins respectively. I managed to retrigger once during Solaris Grove which definitely helped boost my total win.
If your the impatient type (I definitely am sometimes), Sun Princess offers feature buys:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins for 2x bet – makes bonus triggers 3 times more likely
- Stellar FeatureSpins for 50x bet – guarantees at least 1 Sun Ray Frame on every spin
- Solaris Grove bonus buy for 80x bet
- Sunfire Palace bonus buy for 200x bet
I tried the Sunfire Palace buy once and got lucky with a 640x return, so that worked out well. Your mileage may vary though!
Useful Information About Sun Princess
Game Specs:
- Provider: Hacksaw Gaming
- Grid: 7×7 (Cluster Pays)
- RTP: 96.29% (also available in 94.25%, 92.35%, and 86.25% versions – always check!)
- Hit Frequency: 47%
- Max Win: 10,000x
- Volatility: Medium (3/5)
- Betting Range: $0.10 to $100
The medium volatility rating is pretty accurate from what I've experienced. You'll hit wins fairly regularly – about every other spin or so – though most base game wins are on the smaller side unless you get a good chain reaction going. The 47% hit frequency means your bankroll doesn't drain too fast, which is nice if you want to play for a while.
That 10,000x max win is solid for a medium volatility slot. The probability of actually hitting it is probably astronomical (Hacksaw didn't publish those odds), but knowing its possible keeps things exciting. During my session of around 400 spins, my biggest base game hit was 95x and my best bonus round was 580x from that Sunfire Palace feature I mentioned earlier.

My Thoughts About The Slot Game
After playing Sun Princess for several hours across multiple sessions, I gotta say I'm really impressed with what Hacksaw Gaming has done here. The spreading mechanic isn't new for them, but the way they've layered Chain Reactions, multiplier wilds, and three different bonus levels on top of it makes the game feel way more sophisticated than it first appears.
What I love most is how the Chain Reactions can turn a boring spin into something exciting. That moment when you see a Sun Ray spread hit a matching symbol and trigger another ray, then another, and suddenly half your grid is transforming – its genuinely thrilling every time it happens. The fact that wilds can build multipliers makes those chain reactions even more valuable.
The three-tiered bonus system is clever too. Having Solaris Grove as an achievable bonus that hits more frequently keeps the gameplay engaging, while Sunfire Palace and Golden Eclipse give you those bigger goals to chase. I appreciate that each bonus feels meaningfully different rather than just being the same thing with slightly tweaked numbers.
If I had to nitpick, I'd say the base game can feel a bit slow when your not hitting chain reactions. Since only one Sun Ray Frame can land per spin and there's no cascading, some spins are just… spins. Nothing special happens. But honestly, when those chain reactions DO hit, it more than makes up for the quieter moments.
The 10,000x potential in a medium volatility slot is pretty attractive for players like me who want decent win potential without the crazy swings of high volatility games. I've seen some players complain that 10,000x isn't enough compared to other Hacksaw slots, but for a medium volatility game its perfectly respectable.
Its not strange that Sun Princess is climbing up the popularity ladder at casinos. The game is genuinely fun to play, offers enough variety to keep things interesting, and doesn't destroy your bankroll as fast as those insane high volatility monsters. The anime theme might not be for everyone, but the gameplay underneath is solid.
My final rating: 9.0/10 – Sun Princess delivers an engaging experience with exciting features, multiple bonus options, and that perfect medium volatility sweet spot. Hacksaw Gaming has created another winner here, and I'll definitely be coming back to play more!
Will I play again? Yes 100%!
